Founders - Infinite Channel
Welcome to the online home of Dave Bell and Anh Nguyen.
We’ve spent more than 20 years building real companies in mobile distribution, app marketplaces, and consumer platforms ringtones, mobile games, app discovery, and the mechanics behind how people actually find and use products. Not theory. Not commentary. Operating businesses.
Many of the mobile innovations consumers and businesses take for granted today exist because Dave and Anh helped invent them, scale them, or make them mainstream. Together, they played a formative role in the creation of:
- App Store Optimization (ASO) — through the founding and growth of Gummicube
- Ringtones and device personalization — through early direct-to-consumer work at PlayPhone
- Mobile games publishing and distribution — through Chasma Interactive
These weren’t ideas on a whiteboard. They were companies built inside markets that did not yet have playbooks.
Experience Across the Ecosystem
Across their careers, Dave and Anh have worked directly with founders, startups, and large organizations navigating mobile distribution and consumer technology.
That work has included collaborations with companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, Nike, EA, The New York Times, PBS, NBC Universal, Paramount, Plex, and others.
They have also been featured in, or contributed to, industry publications including AdAge, Inc. Magazine, Fortune, Business of Apps, Newsweek, Mobile Marketer, and Mobile Retailer, and have spoken at industry conferences over the years.
Gummicube
Gummicube was founded in 2010 by Dave Bell and Anh Nguyen and became one of the first companies focused exclusively on App Store Optimization.
At the time, mobile growth was dominated by paid install schemes and chart manipulation. Gummicube took the opposite approach: understand how app marketplaces actually function and build technology to support durable, organic performance inside the App Store and Google Play.
The company introduced one of the first dedicated ASO platforms and helped establish ASO as a legitimate, standalone discipline. Gummicube grew to more than 80 people, worked with companies ranging from early-stage startups to global brands, and was acquired by the Airship group in 2022.
PlayPhone
PlayPhone was one of the first companies in North America to offer direct-to-consumer mobile content outside of carrier-controlled portals. Before that, consumers were largely stuck inside the “walled gardens” operated by network operators.
At PlayPhone, Dave and Anh worked directly with major record labels—including Universal Music, Sony BMG, EMI, and Warner to bring legitimate music, ringtones, and mobile content to mobile devices.
That work included:
- Launching early mobile commerce programs such as Walmart Music and Best Buy Mobile
- Managing media integrations such as BET’s ringtone programs
- Pioneering consumer interaction models like text-to-vote and text-to-order
- Supporting national mobile campaigns for major studios, including Sony Pictures promotions tied to film releases
PlayPhone was acquired by SoftBank (GungHo) in 2014.
Chasma Interactive
Founded in 1999 by Dave Bell, Chasma Interactive was among the first premium publishers of mobile games and entertainment content.
Chasma launched some of the earliest downloadable mobile games in North America on Verizon Wireless’ Get It Now service one of the first over-the-air download platforms for mobile applications.
Titles released during this period included:
- Whac-A-Mole
- Slingo 2 Go
- Fox Poker Superstars
- Mastermind
The company also pioneered early multiplayer and competitive mechanics on mobile devices, including asynchronous competitive play and networked high-score systems, years before widespread 3G availability.
Chasma was acquired by Oberon Media in 2005 and became the mobile publishing arm of what was then a leading casual games company.
Infinite Channel
Infinite Channel is how Dave and Anh invest in companies and, when it makes sense, work with founders in an advisory capacity.
There is no program, no funnel, and no fixed model. Some relationships stay as conversations. Others turn into longer-term collaboration, advisory work, or investment. The common thread is simple: the founder remains in control, and our involvement exists only if it’s genuinely useful.
If you’re building something serious and believe our experience could help, reach out. We’re always interested in backing strong ideas and supporting founders who are doing real work.
